This Is Not Here is the only book of photographs and the last book published by Masao Miyoshi (1929-2009). Designed in Tokyo by renowned graphic artist Tetsuo Haketa, the book contains a probing, two-page essay and 126 original photos. Miyoshi is widely recognized as one of the leading American cultural theorists of the 20th and early 21st centuries. He wrote on subjects as diverse as literature, art, architecture, photography, politics, the university, globalization, the economy, ecology and the environment. Of Miyoshi’s avid readers, few were familiar with his photography activity over a lifetime, and many have expressed their delight with the results of his creativity. The cost of production of this item was equal to the sales price--obviously a ridiculous business model--but to respect Masao’s request that the book be available at an affordable price.
